Puddle Jumping

Is it raining where you are?

Here in North Texas, it has been raining cats & dogs lately.

(Where did that phrase come from?
Has there ever been a time where household pets fell from the sky in large groups?
Just something to think about.)

While I am ever so sick of Tornado Watches & Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, rain isn't always bad.

Sometimes rain can be fun.

Don't Judge Me!  You know you've done it too!

I love super-simple layouts like this.

I seem to be gravitating more and more to this type of layout.

I guess because my crafting time is so much more limited now than it used to be.

I would rather have a finished layout with a recorded memory than an unfinished, super-embellished layout.

I'm hoping to be back on some time this weekend to post a few more recent projects, but if Life gets in the way I want to make sure to Thank all of our Military past & present for all that you do to protect us.

Have a safe & happy Memorial Day!

The Other Man

Ok, so it's been an interesting week here.

I haven't been able to log into my blogger account for the last several days, so I apologize that this post is a little late.

Better late than never, right?

On to business!

Today's post is  ScrapFit WorkOut #44.

The challenge is to do a page about the man in your life.

Well, the obvious subjects would be Steve, Dad, my nephew Chase, my brother Chad, my Grandfathers or one of my many Uncles.

But that would be entirely too predictable.

I did my project about The Other Man.

The one I've been in love with for years....

Anyone who's ever met Jamie would totally understand.....

"I Heard" said The Bird

It was a morning like any other.

There were 2 little birds in the driveway when she left for work, as there often were, and, as always, she stopped to talk to them.

After a moment, 1 little bird took fright and flew away.

But the other, well, the other stayed and listened to what she had to say.

When their talk was over, the bird flew away, up to the ears of Someone Who Could Help.

"I Heard" said the bird.

"I heard what she said and what she didn't say, and she is ready.

If You help her, she will go on & do much good in the world."

A few hours later, the first call came.

It might be a match, did she want to come in for testing?

She did, of course.

She was hopeful, but didn't want to get too excited.

This call had come before and it had not worked out.

So she was not surprised when the night came & went with no results.

Then, just before lunch the next day, The Call came.

"It's a match."

They might be some of the sweetest words in the English language.

The surgery was performed that same day, with the whole family waiting impatiently for news.

Today, the healing is still on-going, but going.

And going well.

The family is ecstatic.

I believe that Someone knew that the world is a better place to have such a strong, amazing woman in it.

Sometimes, crummy stuff happens to people who don't deserve it.

Certainly, 15 year old boys don't deserve to die.

But his wonderful family was able to see past their own tragic loss, and allowed him to save the lives of others.

Because of his family's selfless generosity, a wonderful woman has been given a second chance.

I've never known anyone who deserved it more.

Sometimes, life is Tweet!

Only You

Hello Bloggers!

It's a ScrapFit challenge kind of day!

This week's challenge is to use "Only You" as your title.

I don't know about you, but any time I hear those words a song pops into my head.

Not necessarily the same song, but always a song.

I thought about that while I was deciding how to approach this project.

Did you know that when you Google those 2 little words as song lyrics, in a short .21 seconds  (yeah- that's .21.  Not 2.1 or 21, but .21 seconds) you will receive 27,100,000 results?

Well now you do.

And now you know why it's not always the same song that pops into my head.

Needless to say, I couldn't pick a song- there are to many choices, so I had to approach my layout tune-less.

Now, given that there are 27,100,000 songs featuring those lyrics, most of which are above love & heartache & love and other sentimental crap, I had a choice to go the Super-Mushy-Gushy route or the Slightly-Less-Mushy-Gushy route.

I chose not to go Mushy or Gushy.

Instead, I chose do do a layout about a friend.

This layout is a few of the reasons that Sarah and I have been friends for 20-mumble-mumble years.

Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV, Chipboard Letters: Making Memories, Paint: Making Memories, Plaid,  Ink: Cotton White StazOn Accents:Ribbon FX

If you read the journaling, you'll know that there is nothing Mushy or Gushy about spray-painting someone's butt with fake tanner.

I recently picked up a copy of  We Dare You from Memory Makers Books.

It's a nice book of challenges.  The layouts are a little more "artsy" than I typically scrap, so it was a nice change of pace to pull inspiration from those whose style is so very different than mine.

It was from the "Almost Too Much" layout on page 40 that inspired me to paint my background instead of using PP.

I used a plain white cardstock and 2 shades of watered-down blue paint, and a few little streaks of Twinkling H20's (that I bought more than 2 years ago and had never even opened!) for shimmer.

I LOVE the way it turned out.

I added some stitching to the corners for definition

and then added individual beads cut from some beaded ribbon to bullet-point each journaling strip

easy-peasy and very outside my comfort-zone!

But I seriously love the way it came out.

I'm going to keep those paints- AND the Twinkling H20's out & accessible from now on.

Make sure you check out the other Fit Girl's creations (linked above) and link your own for a chance to win  a great prize package from Chelle's Creations.

Since it's raining & windy & stormy here in Dallas again today, I'm gonna be spending the day in my studio.

I'd love to see what you're working on today!
